Snack Pack for Backpacks

Snack Pack for Backpacks is a program that is a joint effort between a student and staff team of dedicated individuals that want to make sure students in need have something to eat, even outside of the school day. You can help this team of RSD students and staff by donating money or non-perishable food to their campaign.

Students at Lincoln, Jefferson, Dounda, and RMS are confidentially nominated for the program by their teachers. Students accepted into the program will receive a bag of food that will slip easily into their backpack so that they have a food resource over weekends & holidays.

We want to have these items able to be easily used by the students, so we are asking that non-perishable items be portioned and easy to open (like fruit cups vs. a can of fruit or pouches of oatmeal vs. a can of oatmeal). We are also looking for items that are not sweet/sugary - we prefer to keep this as nutritious as possible! Here is a list of suggested items:

Fruit cups

Granola bars

Individual vegetable cups

Individual fruit cups

Oatmeal packages

Pudding cups

Individual cereal boxes

Low-sugar juices boxes

Easy-open soup cans

Snack pack crackers

Peanut butter

Cheese and crackers

Fruit bars

Breakfast bars

Spaghettios bowls

Mac and cheese bowls

Shelf-stable milk

Snack sticks

Dried fruit leather or strips

Plastic silverware, paper plates/bowls, napkins

Any other non-perishable snack type item that is individually wrapped

We are also looking for plastic bags (like shopping bags from Walmart or Kwik Trip) to bag the snack items up for quick transport into the students’ backpacks.

If you want to donate items, please drop them off at the Richland Middle School. If you are dropping off a large amount of items, please contact Gretchen Kanable (RMS Guidance Counselor - 608.647.6381) so that she can secure a storage location.

If you would like to make a cash donation, checks can be made out to "Richland School District" and write in the memo line "Snack Pack for Backpacks" and drop off or mail to the Richland Middle School (1801 Hwy 80 S, Richland Center, WI  53581).
